Crossroads at Baldwin Place includes 52 fair and affordable apartments for seniors with at least one member of the household being 55 years of age or older. The apartments range in size from +/‐ 696 SF for a one bedroom to +/‐975 SF for a two bedroom. The apartment includes a living room, dining area and kitchen. The kitchen will be equipped with Energy Star appliances. The buildings are two story elevator buildings, each containing a laundry facility. There is a community room in one of the two buildings for use by all residents.
Crossroads at Baldwin Place is located in the Town of Somers off of Route 6 in north central Westchester County bordered by the Towns of North Salem and Lewisboro on the east, Bedford and New Castle on the south, Yorktown on the west, and Putnam County on the north. It is approximately 45 miles north of New York City. It is across from the Somers Commons Shopping Center with a Super Stop & Shop, a pharmacy, bakery, bank, Home Goods, Chili’s restaurant and more. Jefferson Valley Mall, a major retail center including Macy’s and Sears, is less than three miles away, also located on Route 6.
The Westchester Bee‐Line Bus System offers two buses directly from the Somers Commons Shopping Center. The #16 bus departs to Peekskill approximately once an hour from 8 a.m. through 10 p.m. and the #77 bus travels to White Plains three times between 6 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. and returns from White Plains between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Croton Falls on the Harlem line is the closest Metro North Station at 7.4 miles away. The train provides access to Manhattan ia Grand Central Terminal and services White Plains along the way. The nearby Taconic Parkway provides easy car access to lower Westchester and New York City and to points North.
Somers offers extensive recreational facilities, including Reis Park, and the Angle Fly Preserve. The Parks and Recreation Department provides diversified programs for all age groups. The library is located in Reis Park.
The Town has made it a priority to focus on programs for seniors helping seniors and their families navigate issues pertaining to health, housing, finance and quality of life. It offers a Meals‐on‐Wheels Program and provides a lunch program at the “Van Tassell House” five days a week. A Senior Citizens Club is held at the Amawalk Firehouse. For those unable to drive, transportation is provided to medical appointments, the “Van Tassell House”, Senior Citizen Club, area shopping and the library.
Somers is known for being the “cradle of the American circus”. Hachaliah Bailey erected the Elephant Hotel in honor of his elephant that toured in the old‐style circus. It is a National Historic Landmark>which is currently the Somers Town Hall.
